Alexey Vladimirovich Vysheslavtsev (1831-1888) - the Russian traveller and the historian of art. Serving as the doctor on a clipper of "Plastun" and korvete to "Novik", in 1857-1860 it has made round-the-world travel. It was one of the first long swimmings of group of screw courts - an advanced achievement of shipbuilding of that time - to a mouth of the Cupid. Visiting of the Russian ports on Pacific ocean and "acclimatisation" of Russian flag in the Japanese and Chinese landing stages »became the expedition purpose. On a clipper of"Plastun"Vysheslavtsev has rounded cape of Kind Hope, has visited on the Atlantic islands, Singapore, Hong Kong, in many bays of equipped Amur edge. The whole year has spent a clipper in the Japanese waters. On the way home, as a part of a squadron of admiral A. A.Popova, Vysheslavtsev has seen Polynesia, has passed strait of Magellan, has visited the South America, on a way home has again crossed Atlantic ocean. During long travel the ship got time and again to circumstances extreme. The clipper of "Plastun" has endured not one serious storm, partings and a meeting with other ships of a squadron, long single swimming. From a board korveta "Novik" (on it Vysheslavtsev has been translated in Montevideo), in several days of travelling from native coast, Vysheslavtsev saw explosion of a clipper of "Plastun" and destruction of companions. At last, in August, 1860, after three-year absence, Vysheslavtsev has come back to Kronstadt, having made full global cruise.
During all travel Vysheslavtsev sketched the most interesting places, types of inhabitants of the different countries, ethnographic features of their life. These amateur drawings became an art diary of travel and have reflected a three-year way of expedition. The materials saved up during travel have laid down in a book basis «Sketches a feather and a pencil from global cruise», for the first time published in 1862. The book contains 27 drawings of the author, litografirovannyh known Petersburg master Polem Peti.
